Bio-refining sugar beet pulp
Cosun Biobased Experts was given the opportunity to elaborate on the concept of bio-refining sugar beet pulp during the Cosun Beet Company Technology Days on April 6 and 7. A selection of Cosun colleagues was updated on “hot topics” throughout the organization.
Sugar beet pulp is a side stream of the regular sugar production process. The sugar beet pulp contains valuable compounds that are biobased and circular alternatives to current compounds like micro-plastics. The current Cosun Biobased Experts demonstration plant in Roosendaal, already manufactures Betafib® at an industrial scale. From quarter 3 onwards, also Betawell® Pectin will become available for commercialization. Both products are of value in many markets, like home care, personal care, fabric and leather dying, paints and coatings, building and construction adhesives or agro-formulations. A world is yet to be explored, both for the applications where these products are of value and for the valorization of other compounds that are in the side streams of the Betafib® manufacturing process.
